2017 Mamemaki
In Setsubun, we have a special ritual called Mamemaki, which is the throwing of roasted soybeans in and around one’s house.
This is the ceremony to drive away evil spirits and to bring luck in. So we did Mamemaki with our students. They enjoyed throwing the soybeans to our staff who put on an Oni (ogre) mask, but it hurt a little for us. Hope they go easy on us next time.
